- 2004 Audi S4
Our Audi S4 has been in the family since we bought it new in 2004. It's been meticulously cared for: every oil change, maintenance, and repair has been by the dealership -- no independent mechanics. As soon as I decided I'm ready to sell, the alternator crapped out on me. Between parts and labor, I'm looking at a minimum of $2,000 just to get it running again. "Car guys" know the power and value of the car, and I think it would be a good project for someone who wants to bring it back to its glory. The transmission needs work, the exterior paint needs refreshing, and there's a crack in one of the leather seats. Otherwise, it's a fantastic car. However, it's been a workhorse that has 206,000 miles on it. Is it worth the expense of replacing the alternator, in the hopes of making a tiny profit, and finding this car a new home??
