2001 B5 S4 Radio in SAFE mode

Just purchased my Audi, excited to own it. The radio is stuck is SAFE mode. We have the code, but cannot bring up the code entering function on the radio screen. We went thru the r procedure of pressing the appropriate buttons, but still can't bring up the function that allows the code to be entered.
The previous owner inserted a cassette w/ a Bluetooth lead to play music in the meantime .
Any thoughts !

I guess its in protection mode. Would need vcds or odis to remove it.
I could be wrong . But was the first thing that came to my mind.
